Southern California

Southern_CA The area known as SoCal, or South California, is found in the southern part of the California state, as you might imagine. Even though the northern area doesn’t have a definition, SoCal is considered to be the part of California that lies to the south from the mountains of Tehachapi, which are found to the north from Los Angeles, at a distance of around 70 miles. The Southern California region comprises of the Border Region, the Inland Empire and the Greater Los Angeles. This is a very big center of California, both economically and culturally.

The population of Southern California has a total of five metro areas, called El Centro, Oxnard Thousand Oaks, San Diego, San Bernardino – Riverside and Los Angeles. Three of these are actually large metro areas, with more than 3 million inhabitants. These are the area of San Diego which has more than 3 million people, the San Bernardino – Riverside which has 4 million and the area of Los Angeles, which has more than 12 million people. The entire region of Southern California has the same population as the state of Texas, with over 24 million people living here. This is basically the region that is the most populated from the US.

Looking to the west you will see that the Pacific Ocean is its neighbor, while to the south there is the border between Mexico and the US. Looking to the east you will notice the deserts of Colorado and Mojave, plus the Colorado River, which marks the border with Nevada and Arizona.

In the area occupied by South California you will find two very big cities, San Diego and Los Angeles, plus three major metro areas. San Diego has a population of 1.3 million and Los Angeles has a population of over 4 million people. Thanks to this population, LA is the second biggest city of the US.
